Our group decided to work with the "special needs" and made many visits to Conductive Education (which is a special school for kids with mental and physical disabilities to give them the extra help that they need in throughout their early childhood. Our experience with pbl had constant messages with Conductive to see when we could go see them - following with the visit to conductive to find out what we could do to help out :), That visit resulted with us going back the following Tuesday and Thursday and we got to spend time with the kids and give the teachers a time out for a little period of time.
Our goals were to act in the community and help out where we could - Personally I think that was achieved as with the opportunity going to conductive and helping out with the kids we had the best experience and smiles and laughter we will surely never forget.
Personally I think I tried to do things my way and I sort of took over with contacting everyone and organising how what when why who with going to and from conductive. This is experience will truely never be forgotten as it gave not just me but also the boys a big insight to all kids aren't like your average sibling or cousin. The kids are still exactly the same but just with a different way of learning.
If I was to do this again , I would stay with the same subject but I think I would allow more time to get our actions done so we can plan way more and have a way bigger impact on the community , helping out and making those people more happy would mean everything to me.

Conductive visit #3
Thursday 30th November
We had our second visit at Conductive Education and from my view it went alot better than Tuesday did. Thursday was more chilled out and we weren't exactly "assigned" to a child we just floated around helping wherever we could. It could include- Pushing kids on the swings , Reading to them , Playing with them inside and outside, Getting ready for lunch and much more.

SmileDial Visit
Sunday 26th November
Jack and I went out to the sensory garden in New Brighton. We went out there to help with the event running which was the sensory gardens 1st Birthday. Kelly- the founder and creator of SmileDial had done the sensory garden from scratch with planting each plant individually making sure it was all in place, With being the first birthday Kelly decided to host a "bubble party" and with the kids going they love the sensory things and bubbles were a big thing.

2nd Visit to Conductive Education- Putting our plans into action.
28th November -
We arrived to the building. And we get "assigned" to a child to sort of look after for the day. Spencer was paired with Tawhiri,, Jayden was with LA and Jack was with Lillie. I on the other hand was just floating around helping out wherever I could with each different child. We did a whole lot of different activities which included- reading stories, playing outside , playing inside doing some games and listening and dancing to music. We had lunch and morning tea which cleaning up afterwards and making the place spic and span again. Overall our day was really good and I feel like the boys did really well with communicating with the kids and making the effort to make them feel almost as if they were 'normal' but it was really good.

Pbl- Special needs topic
Our group name is - Law and Order. Group members include - Spencer , Jack ,Jayden and Myself.
We've chosen the topic of "Special Needs Children".
Our main idea and goal is to help in any way , shape or form in making a difference and more of an awarness in special needs. Helping out Conductive will be a big step for us as we will be able to go in and make a game plan on what we can do and what the next steps will be. Conductive Education has a facebook page.
The possibility of making 2 or 3 posters of raising awareness of disabilities and not to ignore them if you walk past them and we can reach out to schools and ask them to put up some posters to make children/adults more aware.

English - Year 10 Camp - Solo, Recount
Midnight Stroll.
We were taking a stroll at what felt like midnight, the night air hitting our faces as we walked up the stairs that would lead us into the bush. With the slight breeze you could hear the trees swaying and gently passing through each other. As the teacher was dropping students off at each “checkpoint” as such the anxiety building up inside, the thought of being left alone in this one spot for 20-30 minutes in the pitch black was daunting as you were never quite sure how far away any of your friends were. You could call out but your voice wouldn’t be heard. Being out in the open like we were could lead to so many different opportunities but fortunately for me the outcome was great and I was able to clear my mind and just simply forget about everything and enjoy the nature even though it was in the dark
The problem of hearing strange noises and the constant thought that someone is just going to pop up out of nowhere was quite daunting. Many problems start to build up with ideas going around and around your head with instant flashbacks of nightmares quickly flashing and out of my mind. I was starting to get anxious and nervous about what was hiding behind the trees and bushes behind me, hearing the rustling of the leaves in the far and near distance was starting to become a problem.
The feelings growing inside of me were getting stronger with my heart beat increasing every minute. It was building up and it kept growing and growing inside until I thought I couldn’t handle it anymore , I wanted to scream , shout or even cry even though no one would be able to hear my cries for help… Then all of a sudden it all stops. there was silent. It was like a massive weight was lifted off of my shoulders and I felt like I could finally breath again, my heartbeat slowed right down and I knew at that moment that I was okay.. this was the best feeling i’ve felt in a while.
As I sat there in the dark, waiting for the group to come back and collect me. I sit there and I just listen to the noises that aren’t at all scary but in fact really calming. I’ve found out that your mind likes to play tricks on you and make things so much worse than what they actually are. Once being collected, we made our way back to camp we all started to share the stories of what just happened trying to process every little bit.
Overall it wasn’t a bad experience and I would most definitely do it again in a heartbeat. Being out in the night fresh breeze is just one of the most calming things you can possibly do to help yourself clear your head and just simply breath and allow yourself to relax.

Outsiders
The Outsiders Chapter 9 Questions
1. On the bottom of p.132, when Pony asks, “What kind of a world it is where all I have to be proud of…” what comment is he making about how society judges people?
_the comment meaning that society isn’t exactly making him feel good about himself like because he’s a greaser what does he have to be proud of? when his background//label is him being a greaser and that means he steals he lies and all that but he really is not like that at all
2. The boys all have different reasons for fighting. What are they? Why is Pony different? (pg 133)
they all like the fights for different reasons like soda because it’s like a contest , steve because he wants to beat them all up because of being socs , darry because he likes to show off his muscles but he really liked anything that took strength, but pony really didn’t know why he liked fights he was different because deep down he never wanted to hurt nobody but did if he had to.
4. What do you think Johnny's last words to Pony mean?
Music Background
what song are you performing?
Emeli Sande - Read all about it
what is the song about?
the song is about finding your voice and speaking up for what you believe in .. being positive and staying strong even though fights may be hard
what instrument and why?
i chose to do it on piano as the original is on piano and is easier to learn the melody when its on the same instrument.

Dear Mr Sutton
I am writing to you today to propose why we should be allowed to have our phones on us all day at school instead of having to hand them in.
Phones in class has always been an issue and may always be, in saying that getting rid of them completely will not help the situation will it? Taking away phones will make kids more rebellious and do what they please despite the rules. Most kids do have a phone for safety purposes. Phones are one of the most important things in a teenagers life and we feel lost without them.
Safety purposes would include .. family being in great danger or been in a serious deadly accident and can they get ahold of us? Nope because we do not have our phones on us as we are not allowed them. Or another case what if we were in danger or upset and all we wanted/needed is reassurance from our parents.. Are we able to get that? Again no as we wouldn’t have our phones. What if we were in danger? What if we were hurt? What if our parent were in danger? All common points to keep in mind. Put the parents out of the fear of knowing their children aren’t alright!!
I understand and agree with the whole you can’t use your phone all the time in class .. but on the other hand if you use it every now and then while doing your work is it such an issue? Having your phone placed on the desk wouldn’t hurt right? If you’re not using it why is it such an issue.. Taking our phones for the day will cause kids to just “hide” their phones in their bags just so the teachers don’t take them.
In conclusion of phones being an issue I do not think we should have to give our phones in as they are not always an issue. I hope this has opened up your eyes a bit in how us teenagers think.
Sincerely
syale
Sophie Yale
